"I keep a couple of these in my fridge at all times during the summer. I love the fresh berries in this wine and it goes with anything we're grilling, or just for sipping in the garden. It's so fresh and crisp, so pretty."
-Lise Asimont, Viticulture
2013 was another wonderful California vintage. Despite persistently dry conditions, the growing season was marked by an abundance of fruit, requiring us to thin the vines and grape clusters. Once accomplished, the vintage proceeded to outshine the flavors and intensity of 2012. In fact, 2013 became one of the highest quality vintages we’ve ever encountered—a thrill to now share. The grapes for our rosé are grown in the cool vineyards of Monterey County, where soils impart delicate floral notes and intense aromatic qualities.
For this wine, the grapes are harvested at a lower brix to ensure we get a light wine that pairs with a diversity of foods. Immediately after being picked, the fruit is brought into the winery, crushed and destemmed. For color extraction, the grapes are cold soaked for 48 hours before the juice is separated from the skins. Then, we ferment at a cool temperature to retain the crisp acidity that is critical for this style of wine.
Our 2013 Sofia Rosé exudes an alluring aroma of raspberries, pomegranate, bergamot and wild flowers. Bright on the palate and extremely well balanced, this wine has ample body and excellent concentration with fresh, juicy fruit flavors of strawberries, plums, and cloves.
