Rich, complex aromas of juicy plums and wild berries accented by notes of honey, brown sugar, nuts, and baking spices are the first things one notices
about the 2021 Wines of Francis Coppola Negroamaro. Flavors of blackberry jam, and Rainier cherries, with subtle floral notes tantalize the palate. Medium-bodied with a light fruity sweetness brought forward by a crisp, balanced acidity leads to a light tannic finish.

Alexander Valley is a long, narrow appellation with two distinct climates and a variety of soil compositions, including volcanic soils on the eastern hillsides,
rocky clay loam at the western edge, and alluvial gravel on the valley floor. The southern portion of the appellation nearest the coast is cooler, while vineyards in the northern part of the appellation are warm during the day, yet chilly inthe evening. Our Negroamaro was sourced exclusively from the Francis Ford Coppola Winery Estate Vineyards. The lush canopy of dinner plate-sized leaves supports the beefy, big clusters of this northern Italian varietal that is embracing a new home in Northern California.

Despite 2021 having low amounts of rainfall, the grapes from this vintage are of exceptional quality. The growing season was typical with plenty of sunshine and the usual afternoon breeze and evening fog helping to promote ripening and acid retention. Grapes were picked at optimal ripeness in September.
