"Winemaking and filmmaking are two great art forms." -Francis Ford Coppola
In the film business, the Director’s Cut allows filmmakers to present their own creative vision of a story even if it differs from that of the studio. Final Cut, on the other hand, represents the version of the film the studio believes will be most appealing to moviegoers. At Francis Ford Coppola Winery, Director’s Cut wines were created as a way for wine director Corey Beck to craft wines that would reflect his own interpretation of the quintessential Sonoma County wine. Appellation specific sourcing, meticulous fruit selection, and numerous blending trials are implemented so that the wines capture the distinct nuances of Sonoma County’s microclimates. Year after year, we’ve found that Malbec from the Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak appellation produces truly exceptional fruit. From these grapes, we have created Final Cut, a single vineyard Malbec that’s a true blockbuster.
2014 is arguably one of the best vintages of this decade. Consistent temperatures throughout the year contributed to good tannin development and flavor complexity. The distinctive mineral nuance that Malbec is known for is striking and pronounced in this vintage, making this wine all the more alluring. Robust and well-defined, having spent nearly two years in barrel, this wine boasts a lavish fragrance of boysenberries, cassis, graphite, mocha, and a trace of crushed fresh mint. Intensely lush with a supple palate of well-integrated tannins, gorgeous flavors of black cherries, bramble, and anise create a big, showy wine that’s enlivened by vivacious spice notes and a hint of garrigue on the finish.
