Honoring the expedition of one thousand men who turned a collection of small Italian provinces into a single nation
In 1860, Giuseppe Garibaldi led one thousand men, including Francis’ Great Grandfather Francesco Pennino, on a dangerous sea expedition to the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies where they undertook a daring military campaign for Italian unification. Made in honor of those brave men that altered the history of a nation, we created our limited production I Mille.
Though few in California are familiar with Vernaccia, as it is seldom bottled as a stand-alone varietal, it’s extremely popular in Tuscany and Sardinia. Light on the palate with citrus notes and a distinct salty-earthy sea spray impression, Vernaccia is transformed by the soils of Sonoma County to create a crisp, vibrant white wine that pairs beautifully with seafood, shellfish, and vegetable dishes.
Light and elegant on the palate, I Mille Vernaccia offers alluring notes of white flowers, hay, kumquat, peach, and pomelo. The fruit has a fresh, juicy quality that flows easily over the palate before arriving at a spicy, zesty pink peppercorn finish. Unlike other white varietals, our Vernaccia has an exotic character that is sultry and unique.
