ANDREA CARD

Director of Winemaking

As Director of Winemaking for Francis Ford Coppola Winery, Andrea Card leads a team of six winemakers working across the Coppola brand portfolio, which includes winery’s flagship Diamond Collection, Director’s Cut Sonoma County blends, and the single-vineyard wines of Francis Coppola Reserve. Andrea also serves on the Board of Directors for Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley Winegrowers.

A fourth-generation Sonoma County native, Andrea’s family roots in winegrowing date back prior to Prohibition, when her great-grandparents grew Petite Sirah and Carignane in the Alexander Valley.  Today, Andrea and her team work with grapes grown across California’s premium appellations, from Mendocino County in the north to as far south as Santa Barbara.

“I’m excited to be in Sonoma County sourcing grapes and making wines that have long been a part of my heritage.”

A Career Built on Craft and Innovation

Andrea joined Francis Ford Coppola Winery from Napa Valley’s The Prisoner Wine Company, where, as Senior Winemaker, she led winemaking for the “Unshackled” brand. From 2017 to 2019, Andrea served as Winemaker at Sonoma’s Ravenswood Winery, which she joined after spending nearly two decades at Sonoma County’s Benziger Family Winery. Andrea joined Benziger shortly after college as a lab technician, working her way up to Winemaker. At Benziger, Andrea developed deep expertise across wine production, and a deep appreciation for sustainability, organic, and Biodynamic®.

Complementing her hands-on experience, Andrea completed the Winemaking Certificate Program at UC Davis and is a graduate of the esteemed California Agricultural Leadership Program, a selective development program for influential agricultural professionals. Andrea holds a B.S. in Agricultural Business with a concentration in Farm and Ranch Management from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

It was during her time at Cal Poly that she developed a deep appreciation for wine and viticulture, ultimately shaping the course of her career.

Andrea loves everything about nature and processes. She is also an avid competitor and two-time National Champion in Logging Sports, a sport derived from the traditional work in the woods such as log chopping, throwing axes and cross-cut sawing. When not competing throughout the country and Australia as a member of the U.S. Women’s Team, she can be found on the lake water skiing, crafting, and enjoying time with family, friends, and pets. She lives in Santa Rosa with her husband, Casey, and daughter, Avonell. She is excited to be in Sonoma County sourcing grapes and making wines that have long been a part of her heritage.
