Shortly before the release, Francis and Eleanor left for a small, unpopulated island with little contact with the outside world. Francis didn’t want to be distracted over what critics or early audience responses might be. On their way back to America, Francis called from the airport to ask, “How did the film do?” When told that Dracula had electrified audiences, he breathed a sigh of relief. The film’s success gave Francis the funds to buy and restore the winery you’re visiting today.
