Francis Coppola Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

The Cabernet Sauvignon selected for this vintage comes from two very different blocks in the same vineyard – each contributing unique expressions of Cabernet, that when blended produces a rich, harmonious blend. Aromas of juicy blackberry, strawberry jam, sandalwood, and baking spice are the first hints of what is to come. Flavors or rich dark fruit, black currant, cracked black pepper, and toasty buttery puff pastry are balanced with firm, rounded age-worthy tannins, leading to a long, layered finish.

“Sei Querce” is Italian for “six oaks,” a name given to the vineyard in honor of the six major species of oak found in North America. The vineyard is in Geyserville, tucked into the Mayacamas mountain range, with elevations from 200ft to 1000ft above sea level. Two very different blocks were used to source this vintage. The first is from the lush, lower elevation floor of the vineyard, where the fruit is allowed to slowly ripen. The other block is located on a steep hillside with greater sun exposure and less water availability, creating firmer tannins and darker colored intensely concentrated fruit.

The 2021 vintage started off cold and dry. Initially inconsistent weather patterns created a lighter crop, but mild to warm weather later provided perfect conditions to develop concentration and flavor. Overall, a very nice harvest producing beautifully concentrated wines.
